LIVE LIKE HIM!

I had a pretty amazing time with a group of women during Sunday School as we discussed portions of Cynthia Heald’s book Becoming a Woman Who Loves.  The author examines how Christ loves, and how love should look in the lives of those who follow Him.  The conversation centered around 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 (English Standard Version).

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant

5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

 8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

We were asked to describe which of the above attributes of love were the most challenging, and which were areas in which we could clearly see growth in ourselves or others.

Those who contributed to the conversation shared examples of how their willingness and ability (by His Spirit) to show Christ’s love toward others through sincere acts of kindness, patience, humility, were manifested out of the love that they have freely received — from Him as well as the Christlikeness seen in others.  No matter what talents or gifts we claim to possess, without love, they are nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) was also a topic of discussion. Every good thing that we do should point to Him, not us. And…of course, we know without any reservation, that we are all a work in progress. And…I put myself at the top of the list!

This love according to Ms. Heald can be exhibited in the people of God. It is  evidence that Christ is alive in us! At the end of our small-group session, we were encouraged to read and meditate on the scriptures on love everyday for three months. I challenge you to do the same!

Last but not least, please listen to the following lyrics about living more like HIM.

Thanks for visiting AnEncouragedHeart. Signing off…God Bless! Cynthia
