WISHING YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

An Encouraged Heart

I pray that this Christmas season for each of you will be one that is shared with family, old friends, new friends, and even strangers. Let’s remember those whose hearts are a bit broken, and those of us who may not truly be in the “Christmas spirit”. I pray that each one of us will remember the hope that we have because we are followers of Christ…and share that hope with others. The hope of Christ reminds me of the Apostle Paul‘s prayer to the saints in Ephesus (Ephesians 1:17-18).

17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,

18 By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones).

I would like to share one of my favorite Christmas hymns with you – “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” — A song of hope and reconciliation. This rendition is a bit contemporary although the words that I have included in this post are quite dated.  Also, I have included a second video which addresses the song from both a historical and theological perspective.

O Come O Come Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel And ransom captive Israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appear

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse Free Thine own from Satan’s tyranny From depths of hell, Thy people save And give them victory o’er the grave

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel

O come, Thou day-spring, come and cheer Our spirits by Thine advent here Disperse the gloomy clouds of night And death’s dark shadows put to flight

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel

O come, Thou, key of David, come And open wide our heavenly home Make safe the way that leads on high And close the path to misery

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might Who to Thy tribes on Sinai’s height In ancient times did’st give the law In cloud and majesty and awe

Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel
